Friday, March 4, marked the 2011 HCDA's Give Kids a Smile Event®. 18 volunteer dentists, 16 volunteer student hygienists from Hillsborough Community College (HCC), volunteer dental assistants from HCC and Sanford-Brown and 3 pre-dental students from USF donated their time and expertise. McDonald's donated lunch, along with pizza from John Hill from Patterson Dental and the HCDA. We appreciate all the dental suppliers who donated to the event: Henry Schein Company, Patterson, Ultradent and Procter and Gamble. Thank you to the Board and staff at the Suncoast Community Health Center, Dover, for hosting the event. A special thank you to Dr. E. Cerveny, Dr. Valdez, Dr. Barlow and the entire dental team at Suncoast for making this event a success.

Also, thank you to Jeannette Fleischer, ARNP, for bringing The Ronald McDonald Mobile Dental Unit to the event and More Health, Inc. for providing an oral hygiene education program to the children while they waited to be seen.

Fifty-seven children received free dental services which included prophylaxis, exams, radiographs, fluoride, sealants, stainless steel crowns, extractions, oral hygiene instruction, pulpotomies and restorative dentistry. Patients were given educational material in the form of a fun workbook, a toothbrush and toothpaste, and an American Dental Association National Children's Dental Health Month Poster. The total dollar value of dental services donated was $46,500.00.
